WHAT ACTIVITIES CAN I USE TO ENGAGE WITH

SOMEONE LIVING WITH DEMENTIA?

Becoming forgetful can be a normal part of the ageing process but memory loss is also a symptom of dementia or Alzheimer’s. However, a wide range of dementia memory products are available to help overcome the problems that forgetfulness and confusion can cause.

Everyone has their own memories of happy times and our specially produced resources such as activity books and memory cards can stimulate recall and help people to reconnect with earlier times, perhaps when they were children or had a young family. Talking about the past can also promote feelings of well-being, build self-confidence and encourage conversations with the carer by sharing reminiscences.

Activities using specialist items such as such dementia friendly jigsaws or games can actively stimulate the brain and engage people with dementia to help them combat feelings of helplessness and boredom. These activities can also help to enhance communications with care home staff or other carers and increase their job satisfaction too. A soft toy or fiddle muff meets the need for comfort and provides a focus for the person with dementia to play with something.
